Michael Jackson’s Funeral: Will Twitter Finally Go Mainstream?
Originally posted on SocialGeist.net
On Tuesday, July 7th, 2009, at about 10 am Pacific Daylight Time, social media will have yet another first: Michael Jackson’s funeral. I would expect CNN, NBC, CBS, and all the other major networks to be broadcasting from Los Angeles, CA, and one would think that nearly every newspaper will have a spread about the events at The Staples Center the following morning. For this event, however, Twitter,FriendFeed, and Hulu will be there alongside the conventional media.
#BestCoverOfAllTimeForRightNow
For those of you who follow me on Twitter, you know that every now and then I will add the hashtag #BestCoverOfAllTimeForRightNow to a song. It originally started as a joke when I claimed that a song was the best cover song of al time, and was told, “Well, maybe not of all time.”
So it became the best cover of all time, but just for right now, until another one comes along.
Without further ado, I present to you some of the #BestCoversOfAllTimeForRightNow:
Jimi Hendrix – All Along the Watchtower
Written by Bob Dylan, made famous by Jimi
Children of Bodom – Rebel Yell
Alexi and the gang take on this Billy Idol classic
Black Label Society – No More Tears
Zakk helped the “Old Man” write this song, and a few years later, he had his own take on it
Megadeth – Paranoid
Another guitar hero takes on an Ozzy song
Tell me what your favorite covers are.
Alice In Chains are giving away their new single
Jerry Cantrell and the guys are back, and they’re giving you a chance to listen to their newest song, called “A Looking In View”. For free. Check it out right here.
If you would have told me about seven years ago that AIC would reform with this wonderful new singer and still sound JUST like they did back in the 90’s, I would have called you crazy. This new song is an #EpicWin.
Give it a listen and tell me what you think.
Spinal Tap Gives Us Another Album
Yes, last week Spinal Tap dropped a new album. But you know what it is? A Greatest Hits album plus four new songs. Except it’s not even a Greatest Hits album. It’s a rehash of This Is Spinal Tap.
I’m sorry, but if you’re gonna hype the hell out of yourselves, ESPECIALLY if you’re a joke to begin with, at least give me a reason to like the album.
Unless of course the joke’s on me…
